Wk (Napier Telegraph) learn that there are over 400.0C0 acres of Native land on the East Coast surveyed, the purchase of which by the Government has been for some time past under negotiation. Through the unaccountable negligence of the Government, the purchase cannot be completed, owing to the land not having been passed by the Native Lands Court. In spite of petitions and letters from Land Purchase' Commissioner and Natives, the Government have turned a deaf ear to the prayers for the appointment of a sitting of the Court. While the progress of settlement is thus checked, while the utmost dissatisfaction is thus beine created in the minds of the Natives, the Government, to all appearance out of sheer mockery, have appointed a sitting of the Native Lands Court on 23rd January next at the Chatham Islands, for the settlement of five succession claims.
