On the 20th September the sergeants of the Boyal Scots Fusiliers stationed at Ayr celebrated the 200 th anniversary of the raising of their famous regiment by Charles Earl of Mar. Invitations having been sent to all the surviving sergeants who had served with the regiment, there were present members from all parts of the kingdom! wearing war medals—memo* rials of Alma, Inkerman, Balaclava, and Sevastopol. The banquet was presided over by Quarter-Master Sergeant Metier, supported by Major Hazelrigg and paptain Willoughby, and the Earl of Mar sent a representative. Each non-commis-sioned officer after entering the hall was conducted up to the tattered and bloodstained colors, which had so often been borne to victory. The toasts of the Queen, the Service, and the Kegiment were all drunk with enthusiasm. The Scots Fusiliers were raised by the Earl of Mar in September, 1678, and the regiment was one of the first which obtained the distinction of being called Fusiliers.
