The Gabrie's Gully Tailings.

For years past efforts have been made by parties to secure the right of working the immense deposit of tailings which have accumulated in Gabriel's Gully since the working of the Blue Spur was first commenced. . Some idea of the vastness of the accumulations may be gathered from the fact that they occupy a space about three miles in length, for portions of that distance are nearly a quarter of a mile wide, and that from 60 to 80 feet beEow their present surface were situate the first township and workings in Gabriel's Gully. Difficulties of one kind or another stood in the way of granting the application hitherto.but a party which was formed some time back for the purpose have obtained permission from the Government. Ho official intimation has yet been made, but private information from Wellington places the matter beyond doubt. The company formed for the purpose includes Mr H. Bastings, M.H.K., Mr J. C. Brown, M.H.K., and Messrs E. Grieve, F. Wicol, J. Cor mack, James Dougherty, and Hinde. The five last mentioned gentlemen belonged to the Blue Spur, but by some it is considered that the promoters are not so representative of the locality as a list of promoters for such a work should be. However, the concession for the granting of a gigantic system of operations has been granted to them, and in the interests of the district and Proyince it is to be hoped that it will be entered into with bona fids intentions, and not „as a speculation. We hear from a reliable source that stringent conditions are to be attached to the grant, co is to prevent interference by the company in any way with the Blue Spur workings. No scheme of operations has yet been agreed upon, but wo learn that for some time past enquiries have been aaade in England and elsewhejrp on the subject. A meeting will be held after the return from Wellington of the district members, and it is not improbable that a limited liability company will be formed in order to raise the necessary capital, and that.the general public will be asked to subscribe.—Morning Herald.
