WAITEKAUKI.

The following is a copy of the mine manager's usual weeky report; —" Waitekauri, January 21st, 1878.—The directors of Waitekauri G.M.Co. —Gentlemen,—l hare the honor to report for your information that during the past week there has been no change of importance in the mine calling for special notice. The stone brought to the mill has been obtained from the Golden Point, and from blocks 2, 3 and 4. The stone from the No. 2 of my last report is not looking so well, but continues to jield a fair average return. Sinking of the wince on the No. 2 run below the bottom level referred to in my last communication was continued during the p-st wept:, but t°" day.it Had to be abandoned for the present,-until the 90ft lerel is sufficiently far advanced to drain off the water, the quantity which had to be contended against being -so great as to iake the men almost the whole of their time baling. "With all their efforts, a depth only of from 8 to 10ft was obtained, and that with the greatest difficulty. The stone taken out is of a

The contractors in the 80/t level and tho Queen tunnel have both made better progress during the week, the class of country in both drives having greatly improved. At the battery crushing has . been continuously carried on with as many stamps as the water supply will allow of, 20 stamps being the greatest number that could be driven during the first part of the week. The raiu on Wednesday enabled me to restart the whole force, so that an average of 32 stamps have been working for the current week. These have reduced in all 330 tons of stone, 296 tons being for the Woi-rkauri Company, which jislded 234 ounces of amalgam from plates, ripples, . Ac., and 34 ton* for the general public— : K. M.
