Ministers are still flooded with deputations on erery conceivable subject. In reply to one deputation, the Hon. Mr Macandrew* slid; it was inexpedient and suicidal to relax the restrictions on the importation of stock to .Auckland from Europe and America. The Government intimated that they will give railway passes to parties in Otago desirous of getting up entertainments in aid of benevolent societies.
Margaret McPermid, who sued the Port Chalmers Corporation for ten thousand pounds damages for the construction of water*work s, was awarded £1600.
Chantrey Harris, formerly shipping reporter of the Times, has received the appointment of editor of the Southland Times.
A match between Australian and Otago cricketers eventuates on the 12th, 14th, and 15th of January. Mr Jas. Wheatleigh, an old Eakanui resident, died suddenly last night.

At the Criminal Sessions of the Supreme Court, Thomas Roth, convicted of arson, was sentenced to one; year's hard labor. This leniency was shown in consequence of prisoner having extinguished, the (ire himself. Jessie Kilpatrick was found guilty of larceny of £45. There were six previous convictions against her, and she was sentenced to three years' penal servitude. Michael Egan, charged with committing an unnatural offence, was acquitted. The other cases were trivial.
