COROMANDEL.

Monday. The Xapanga starts work to-morrow. The machinery is got into splendid working order. Other mining news unimportant.

Whangapoua.—The Fanny, cutter, has arrived. The Albatross has sailed with timber.

The Coromandel races are put off until to-morrow. The Thames visitors by steamer to-day were disappointed, owing to the wet weather.

Mercury Bay,—There is a report here that a Maori has been killed by a halfcaste in a general row. An inquest was held and an open verdict returned. Major Keddell, returning officer, left here for the Thames this evening.
