A CASE of SCARLET FEVER being re. ported as having occurred in the Borough, the attention of the inhabitants is earnestly requested to the SUGGESTIONS below, furnished by the Resident Medical Gentlemen, in the hope that if the suggestions are attended to the danger may in a measure be abated. • J. E. MAODONALD, Mayor. December 21,1875. ■ ■.-. ' \ Tn the probable prospect of an epidemic j of Scarlatina occurring at the Thames, the i Medical Profession would desire to impress upon the inhabitants, and more especially upon Parents and Guardians, the necessity of CLEANLINESS, in person :and premises. Sleeping rooms should be washed frequently with a solution of Chloride of Lime ; free ventilation should be established in dwelling houses, and all privies and cesspools ought to bo deodorised with the same disinfectant. In all cases where sore throat and rash should affect any member of. a household it will be the duty of the parents to call in a medical man as soon as possible, and in the meantime to separate the patient as far as can be from the rest of the family ; use a gargle of chlorate of potash for the throat (15 grains' to the ounce), and ofren Bponging the body of the patient with tepid water, put him or her to bed. Chloride of lime in solution ought to be at once used for washing the bedrooms, from which all excreta should be immediately removed. It will be of great importance to attend strictly to the suggestions of the medical man. ' The medical profession at the Thames desire to impress upon the inhabitants generally the great advantage of complete isolation in all cases of contagious disorder, and this they hope they may be capable of accomplishing, in all cages where there is no objection to such a course, by the establishment of a Special Hospital for the recep'ion of patients affected •with Scarlatina. It is impossible to say how many lives might be saved, and how much suffering averted by the timely isolation of a person affected with this disorder j indeed it is not too much to aver thafc.cotnplete isolation of the first cases would go far to stop the further progress of the epidemic, James Kimkhjb, ID.
