: There has been* more excitement dis-

played than at any previous election. The following is the result of the polling for the city:—Stevens, 1059; Bichardson, 992; JM oorehouse, 662 ; Andrews, 532^ Wakefield,' 241; Treadwell, *22. s Th| three first are returned.

Mr Bowen was elected for Kaiapoi by a majority of 41, Beswick polling 294, and Bowen 335.

Mr Rolleston was returned for Avon district unopposed. -
