FEOM OUE OWN COBBESPONDEKT.
This day, 7 a.m. Since my last but little has been done in the locality of the late rush. The weather this been awful, jattdj the continuous downpouriof iraiii during the lalt two days has flooded the Ohinemuri, and rendered the r smaller creeks Almost impassable. The few that hare mfuijaged to reach the ground have had to shelter in toe Prospectort' Mm'p; "ISd those miners whoj after pegging out, remained on the sput|r T|ide of the Ohinemuri, are unable-to" recro¥«s to-'dbtain provisions. It is evident that very little work can be, done this week, as the necessary^ tools^ are/not^to! hahdpß^als^m account of the protection for the Christmas holidays, which,will begin on the 24 th instant. Of the claims surrounding the Prospectors, the Sta? of Ohinemuri (Thorpe and party) is the only one fitf which work has been:started.; They are putting in a drive to catch No. 2 lode of the JProspectprs', which they? expect to cut shortly. ;This mine is considered bf many to rank next to the Prospecfcori', v I it contains the run of all their reefs. ",&>iD
Adjoining the Prospectorsi onjthe east is the Radical—a claim of ten men's groundt It is said to be A 1 if "the "tOTfs i^Jfcte Prospectors' continue '■ their" preself iipposed course, through: it. I hear that a plaint for surplus- ground * has been laid against .the shareholder^ in this claim. JSiext-.to the Badical is a olaim pegged out by J. Eiordan and party. There is a fine bodyof slone in this ground, and good prospects, are obtained r;by; washmg.^ The shareholders' before starting permanent operations' are engaged in bairdingiwhareg." It was in this ground that the first indications of gold were fpundj-and a ,soja'siderable amount /work has been abne in it by tlie Prospectori. A claim of three men's>grpundr between the: Smile of Fortune and ,the river has, been pegged out by two different" parties, and they have-both registered it, so I suppose there will be work for His Worship the Mayor. Keiler and party have pegged a claim of ten men's ground north of the Badical and east. of: the Sjar.pf lOhinemurr.g^The position of this <*laim is -said,to be good, and work is to be commenced immediately in it. •--'-' '-;;-:=/-: ; v ■■■■r:z*-:i;y{:':.
Among others who have marked out claims onr the; south side li>f the nt&*, on the' line^oP"reef, there are Cameron:and party, Murphy and^arty^and* Darfdw and party.,. The contractors for the erection of" a battery-for the Xararigahake Gold Mining Company are progressing with thiiir workV; Thtf greater part of the. machinery has been landed, and is awaiting conveyance to the site. .■ ?. r - -. ; n , -, ;
