EMIGRATION.

(To the Editor of the Evening Star.)

Sib, —It is said. reforms do not'- come from the rich, but the poor who kndw and feel the need of them, if so the emigration scheme must be a great and grand idea for rich people, as the poor man will always be kept at the grindstone through, ignorance of the doings of the Government, for as a poor man. gets knowledge he has to make room for those that have none, and great roguea can keep office in spite of honesty; in other words, get rid of old hands. They know top much; instead of us governing them they; will govern us, unless we hayo fresh, ignorant men, or can overpower the old knowledge by the-new. If Government borrow money why can't they spend it here on the country, and not squander it in send•ing for strangers who do not help us, but are a burden, only that they can squander some thousands on themselves. It would never be the cry vve want population > the cry is a farce; it is a cry in London. What we want is good honest representatives, and we want men to vole who understand what they are voting for, and not men who can be led away by being strangers to what is wanted to vote against the interests of the colony.; Sir, did we want immigrants, the write? would not* be writing this letter. Those that say we do, whoever they are, are swindling at least one portion of their fellow creatures. —I am, &c, : t AnTI-EmiGBATION. _ December 18th, 1875.
