St. George's School Examination.
rApublic examination of St. "Ge*orge>s' Grammar School took place this morning. Among the visitors' were the Rev. V. Lush, Mrs- and the ?Misses Xush,", Capt* .Souter, Capt". Power';" Mr and Mrs iEhrenfried, Mr- Ferguson/v/Mr McCul,lough,. Mesdames Myers, Gqldwjiter, ; Phillips, Reid; and other ladies' and gentlemen. Proceedings . commenced with the examination of the junior classes by Mr . Gribble, after .,. which Mr Schofield examined the Ist class in reading, parsing and analysis;, ; Herbert Lamb then recited the " Fool and the Abbot;" The Ist class: was: then examined in arithmetic by Mr Schofield, after which Arthur Souter, a little boy of eight, recited very creditably "Home for, the Holidays ;" the 2nd class was then 1 examined; in history, and Tthe,. answers were prompt and correct.l' 3- Myers then ■recited "Bring back the chain." A i debate then took place, the subject, "Are the mental capacities of the ; sexes ; equal." T he; follow;ihgO yoiirig^ gentlemen were the debaters:—W. Souter, Herbert Lamb, Edward Lush,*H. Hall, Win. Vickery, W. Severn, Thomas Wallnutt, B. Myers, Edwin Otter, J. jB. Perston, Clarence McKay. Mr A. De C. Potterton then conducted the 1 examinations inLatin and French, after which the Rev. V. Lush distributed the prizes as follows :— ' -
