Tke sheet at the Resident Magistrate's Court this morning contained the name of one person charged with having been drunk and incapable. The usual penalty was recorded.
We have heard the name of Mr Louis Ehrenfried mentioned during the day as likely to be amongst the list of candidates to represent the Thames at the coming election.
A meeting, convened by advertisement, was held at the American Theatr* last night of. " friends and supporters of Mr C. F. Mitchell." There were about 60 persons present, and Mr Robert Scott was called to the chair. Messrs H. Driver and S. O. Morgan spoke favorably of Mr 'Mitchell's paafc services in the Provincial Council, and of his fitness for the position of a representative of this district in the Assembly. Afterwards Mr Morgan proposed, and Mr Tole seconded a motion affirming the desira-

A meeting of the supporters of Mr S.. Stephenson was held last night at the Marine Hotel- The attendance was not large. Mr Otto was called to the chair, and the following resolution, moved by Mr Fugill seconded by Mr Eobson, was carried unanimously:—" That this meeting, having carefully gone over the electoral roll for the district of the Thames, considers that a large portion of the community being working men, miners, and others, holders of miners' rights, are desirous of returning to the General Assembly one who will thoroughly their views and interests, have great pleasure in bringing forward Mr S. Stephenson, as a gentleman well qualified in every respect to aspire to Jthat honor, and hereby pledge themselves to use every exertion to secure his return as their delegate." After a desultory conversation as to how Mr Stephenson's candidature should be conducted the meeting broke up. , . ,*
