WELLINGTON.
This day. Messrs. Hunger and Pearce have published adctv^ssjhs to the'electors announcing their-, intention of again standing for the .City and promising to-address the electors in'public after the writs are issued. Mr ]-[unter, while admitting that though .aGoveinment supporter in all else but the Abolition of Provinces, and against which* he voted, says he feels convinced it would be useless attempting to re-es-i tablish the old form of Provincial Go- ! vernment. Mr Pearce's address is merely j formal. Mr Gisborne in his address j regrets that the question of abolition was i not submitted first to the free considera- ■ tion of the people at this general election. i He thinks Provincial Legislation should cease and the provinces no longer exist. He opposes insular separation, but thinks the colony suffers unequal, improvident, and flurried finance, and favors the elective principle in the: constitution of the Legislative Council. . .: At a regatta meeting last night, the Superintendent in the chair, a committee was appointed to carry out an interprovincial regatta in connection, with the usual anniversary regatta of the Province on the 22nd January; £120 was subscribed in the room. • The various boating clubs throughout the colony will be communicated with,o#the matter.
