PUMPING ASSOCIATION. Operations for the past fortnight have been up to the mark, 10 feet haying been sunk, and that in the largest section of the main shaft, the total depth being 624 feet. The country is first rate for sinking, and in the bottom are several quartz veins well defined, white and olue tinted colour, with incrustations of white friable material. Some of this stone has been tested by Mr Assayer Masters and proved .to contain .gold equal to 6 dwts to the ton. The air shaft is making progress, the men being down about 20 feet below the 500 feet level. Plans are now in hand for the necessary appliances connected with fixing another plunger at the 600 feet level; and in order to do this with rapidity as well as economy, it has been determined to erect

a steam-capstan, in lieu of the present horse-capstan. The plans for this useful adjunct have been furnished by the present manager, and it will be erected in time to # be used for the new 600 feet plunger. 'The average, stroke of. the Sump has been 3 times per minute, but uring the past fortnight it has gradually increased, by half and a whole stroke, the speed now being 4 strokes per minute.
