GOLDEN CALF.

The late crushing demonstrated that there was gold in the large reef upon which stoping and driving had been carried on, but in too small quantity to warrant the directors to continue. Driving on the reef, or rather the junction of reefs No 1 and 2, is now in hand, the bulk of the, stone being hungry, but not devoid of gold either, in the foot or hanging-wall, with an occasional presence in tbe body of the reef, which is.near 12 feet wide, a portion of this ■has-been brought to., the surface for milling purposes. This quantity will now be rapidly increased, as a change for the better has occurred in the"- constitution of the reef, and the whole of it willibe crushed. The manager, Mr Dunlop, will push this drive in as last as possible, in order to reach the underlay of that portion of the lode worked profitably in the upper level: this is estimated at 30 feet distance, and still further on a winze has been sunk 40 feet, giving good gold; the main object will be to reach that locality.
