MR ALLEY AND SIR D. McLEAN.
(To the Editor of the Evening Star.) Sir,— Quotation from New Zealand Herald of 4th instant:—" Sir D. McLean answered, I heard some rumors about that when I was in Auckland, butJL'.kno'Vf nothing of the particulars^. I walTK^oVjS" that the rumour had been circulated by a man named Alley, who was formerly a settler in Hawke's Bay, an utterly unreliable" character." Strong terms to use, I think, Mr Editor. And all I would say in reply is, compare the transactions of Mr Alley and I Sir D. McLean, and see if such lan- ! guage is justified in any way. One thing I can say, as far as Mr Alley is concerned, that his integrity and straightforward dealing cannot be questioned. As to Sir D. McLean, compare the transactions of .the two men. Messrs. Kinross & Co., of. | Napier, I think, can enlighten the public, I and say which they can place most reliance on.—Yours truly. James Ckaig, Auctioneer. Grahamstown Nov. 10th, 1875.
