Monday.

The Governor lauded at Lyttelton shortly after 10 o'clock. He was received by the Superintendent and members of the Executive. The Artillery fired a salute. Heavy rain prevented any further demonstration. The Governor came through, to Christchurch at once, arriving about 11.15. The City Guards formed a guard of honor, and the Cavalry the escort. The Governor was driven to the Club in Sir Cra'crofl Wilson's carriage. He will reside at the Club during his visit.

The. weather is Very unpromising for the Agricultural Show and. races. Five days last week were very wet, and rain is falling heavily, with no sign of clearing up. This day. A heavy south-west storm-'of wind and rain yesterday, but cleared off during the night. The weather is beautifully fine now. A general holiday is observed in honor of the Prince of Wales' birtteday.

To-day the Mefcropolitani^gricultural Show was opened at noon. It is a great success. The entries comprise—sheep, 267; cattle, 92; horses, 139; - pigs, 33 ; poultry,- 69; sheep dogs, sj. Improve* ments (?)• 101; ■dairy produce, 25; cured meats, 9; New Zealand manufactures, 50; wool, 12. The sheep, cattle and horses are magnificent. The Governor was present. :; ' '-' ;V> : • .. :S
