There is little to report in mining; the road is the paramount question, and one is entertained with any amount of argument in favor of one route over the other. The miners are sorely exercised over this matter, and are divided into hostile camps — Mackaytowh v. Paeroa —and each are of opinion—but v : -: TherfiVuo accounting-lor opinions, ! Some'likes apples, some likes onion's. Perhaps the best plan for all would be to wait until we have -the decision of ; Mr J. McLaren, District Engineer, and adopt the route which he recommends, and then, by united action obtain that which is so much needed"-a good road to Waitekauri. ' I see that you are bent on having a fling at the Armed Constabulary. No doubt you are desirous to suggest some method of .employment for. those whom Sir "George Grey most undeservedly called","loiterers about public.-bouses." Your suggestion is very good, though I hare heard a better ; i.e., let them, assist Sir George "to make history." . j
