AUCKLAND TELEGRAMS.
(FROM OUB SEECIAJ& ibpRBBSPOKDENT.)
This day. City East Constituency. Mr James McCosh Clarke is likely to be invited to stand for City East, and I hear already steps have been taken to present him with a requisition. There is little doubt but the constituency will be contested. Newton. There is no likelihood of Mr Swanson having any foe to fight for Newton; he will very likely have a walk over on nomination day. | Date of Dissolution. Private telegrams to Auckland speculate as to not more than a fortnight passing by until the writs are out.
The Sercants' Association.
The prospects of this new movement are very encouraging, and purely of a, beneficial character. The providing for members out of work ; the recommendation of suitable persons to masters ; and the establishment of a sick fund in connection with the institution, are included amongst the principal objects. Already about 70 members have joined, and the usual appointments confirmed.
