RED QUEEN.

■ The first crushing from stone obtained from the footwall lode of the Cure, supplemented by parcels from the old leaders worked by the company has not come up to expectations. The lose is about one foot wide and shows gold, and from which 97 lbs picked stone were obtained and treated separately, yielding 25i ounces gold, while

the general stuff crushed at the Waiotahi battery consisting of 45 tons stone only gave 33 ozs. 6 dwts .making a total when melted of 58 ozs. 6 dwts. This result is scarcely payable, inasmuch as a large amount of dead work had to be done, in order to secure working upon the continuation of the Cure footwall lode. This has been achieved, and the manager, Mr McCabe, will now be in a position to deal with the remainder free from those charges, when it is to be hoped tho reef will improve in size and character.
