CROWN PRINCESS.
The chamber for the new level at the bottom of the shaft is in course of completion, two sets of permanent timbers being in position. In cutting down the wall, the specimen reef has been intersected ; this was expected. The size where cut is about 2 inches wide, and a few stones showing gold taken out. The chief interest, however, lies in the fact that gold continues downwards, golden ore having been obtained from the present bottom of both winzes sunk on No. 2 reef, and which will be shortly down the required depth, and now on the specimen leader ; these are indicating in favour of the new level notv about being opened out. The splicing on of new rope will necessarily stop operations in the bottom for a short time, and the opportunity will be taken to effect certain improvements in the winding gear. By the time hauling is resumed, the new tramway will be finished, so that the mullock will be tipped on the new depot. The depth of the shaft ig 320 feet.
