THE INQUEST.
On Saturday evening, soon after the death of the second victim, -an inquest was called on the bodies by Mr J. E. Macdonald. The following jury were empannelled : — Messrs Thomas Way th Gudgeon (foreman), Thomas Fenton, Denis O'Brien, James Stockdale, Patrick Hayes, John Bullock, William Hewitt, John B. Teasdale, Wm. Thackeray, David Eeid, Eichard Whittard, Boderick McDonald Scott.
The .inquest was held at the Governor Bowen Hotel, and the Coroner informed the jury the reason of their being called together was that they might view the bodies of the two children so that they might be handed over to their friends for burial. The jury then proceeded to the scene of the tragedy for the purpose viewing the bodies. They were lying on one bed, with the ghastly wounds which had caused their death plainly visible. The sight was an extremely painful one, and the : jury were naturally affected. After the formal "viewing" was over, the jury entered into recognizances to appear on Monday (to-day) at one o'clock, to which hour the further enquiry was adjourned. •
