We have received from the Government Printer Nos. 20 and 21 New Zealand Parliamentary Debates, a number of Parliamentary Papers, and New Zealand Gazettes Nos. 54 and 55.

Shabeholdebs in the Otago Goldmining Company are requested by advertisement in another column to send proxies in before the meeting comes off, to be used only in case of shareholders themselves not being present, and to prevent a sacrifice of the company's property.

We draw attention to an announcement in our advertising columns that the Rev. J. Hill will, to-morrow evening, deliver a discourse in the Presbyterian Church on " the period between tfie histories of the Old and New Testaments." The period between Malachi and the coming of our Lord embraces 400 years, and the treatment of this subject should be very interesting.

It may not be generally known, but it is none the less true, that for some time past the public works within the Borough have been carried out entirely under .the direction of the Foreman of Works, Mr T. Rawdon, thereby saving a considerable sum to the ratepayers which would under other circumstances have gone in engineer's fees. The works undertaken during this period have been of no light or simple character. Culverts have been laid down in different parts of the Borough, and in every case they appear to have answered well being a great improvement on those which were formerly •used. "Then there has been made a capital piece of footpath on the Grahamstown beach from Amy street to Karaka foot bridge; the latter also being much enlarged and improved. Several works of an important character are now in progress, and ill every case we belie vp they

are being performed by ordinary labor at an economical cost, considerably less than would have had to be paid to contractors. The beach footpath is the best piece of work of the kind we have seen, and the precaution has been adopted of constructing two small breakwaters, which should materially conduce to the permanency of the work.
