Sib,—Pray allow me-through your columns to assure that representative of the Thames Walker Chalks, whose letter, appeared in your' issue of Jthe 15tu^insfc.; and who signed himself " Fair Play" (which I wish-he would:Vgive),*thafc "Enquirer's" object in writing wiSrnqt to prove that the Thames milkmen' were a parcel of fools—that woul3 be far too complimentary for them, but "Enquirer's" object was to prove the Thames milkmen were getting money from the public" under false pretences by stating they could not sell milk at a profit under. Bet per quart. "Fair Play" from his own! letter proves what I stated—that men can sell milk at a profit at 4cL.per', quart here. Take his own version—middling cows will give 13 quarts per day, deducting 2s 6d;ibi\ fodder, which they, can giyo or not, at 8d per quart will leave 6d 2d per day per cow; at 4d, of course, would be 3d Id, the cow costs £12, so that in less than six weeks, at the first price, he gets his cows for nothing, and three , months: at^ the seoond price; rather a • good profit at either price. I fancy "Fair Play" has been trying to fool the public, or else he must be the man, that, believes it is easy to prove b'ladk is white on paper.
