Thursday. Mr Waterhouse gave notice of motion that any contracts subject to ratification by the Assembly should not be passed without the concurrence of the Legislative Council. .-■•'-■ ;' Upon a motion to read the Piako Land Exchange Bill a third time, Mr Waterhouse denounced the bill, and said the dealings of the Government with the public estate, and of which that bill furnished an instance, must lead to insular separation. Upon a division, there were 12 for and 12 against the bill. The Speaker gave his casting vote with the noes, and the bill was thrown out.
