The application of Albert Griffiths lor the transfer of the license of the Theatre Boyal Hotel was the only business. The Chairman said at last meeting the Bench had decided not to grant the transfer to a female. Mr Maodonald said as he understood the case the Commissioners had declined to grant the license to a female who had not previously been in the business, and thei adjournment. had . been made t.o allow him to find" a name to substitute for Mrs White's. He hoped the Commissioners would not think ho had less respect for' them now than he had at the last meeting if ho took/another view of the question. _ ■'■■ Tho Chairman said Mr Macdonald would be taking advantage of his position by doing this, and he hoped he would not do that.. The question was virtually settied before, ana it was that a name in place of Mrs White's should be submitted for the approval of the Commissioners. The question was settled so far as Mrs White was concerned. , , A ; '"Mr Macdonald did not think that. was tho exact position. The Chairman said he thought ifc was, and they did not intend to hear any argument on any other point. If Mr Mac.donald would mention a. name the Commissioners would consider it. Mr Macdonald then suggested Clement Ahier. The police had no objection to the man. . Mr; Bulien said Ahier was willing to go into the .house :and.make it his place of residence. ■ • The Chairman said the Bench had been ." done "before and they wanted to avoid being " done ■'' again. Mr Bullen said the Bench had not been more "done" than the police through the vagueness of the Act In this particular. •"■■•.. Mr Macdonald hoped the Commissioners had not been "done " through his instrumentality} and he hoped they would not think themselves " less done" if through their action Mrs White and her children, were turnedinto the street.
/ The Chairman: Oh I we are not come here to talk «entiment. -Mr lYiacdonald was understood to say that at the risk of being thought determined to have the last word, he thought ■enliment had had something to dp with
