In this issue we publish the Heportof the Select Committee of the House of Representatives on the Tairua Gol-ifield and Iteterre, from which it will be seen that the Committee hare expressed their disapproval of tho course adopted with regard to the reserve, and also as to the acceptance of a share in the Prospectors' Claim by Mr Crippen. The recommendation to legislate to meet such cases as these is really a sensible suggestion, for it is not in the nature of things to expect that men will let slip such an opportunity as that which presented itself to Mr Guilding to lease the Tairua reserve ; neither can it be supposed that any one in the position of Mr Crippen would decline a share in a claim like tho Prospectors. It should be made impossible for circumstances such as those which surrounded the opening of Tairua to arise, and the Government are mo?t to blame for the irregularities which attended the opening of that field and the scheming which has resulted in the enquiry, the report of which is published to-day.
