CITY OF LONDON.

The opening of No. 1 reef at the bottom or 420 feet level has been one of much solicitude, but this has been practically set at rest by the result of the last few shots put in, piercing to the off-wall of the lode, showing not less than 4 feet of crushing quartz, and revealing a show of gold in both walls and middle of the reef that sufficiently warrants the expectation of its paying well. The reef is cut close to the Queen of Beauty boundary, and will traverse the entire length of the Company's ground. Active operations will be effected upon it in driving on its course, and a rise carried in to break through into the adjoining property. This will thoroughly ve'ntlate the section of ground to be worked, and will supply material sufficient for their stamping power. There are 170 feet backs to take out, and at the point of intersection by the City's crosscut, the reef is some forty feet past the junction of No. 1 and 3, where the stuff Mas regarded as very poor. The fact of visible gold being met with on the eastern side of the junction as well as in the present depth is edual to a new lease of profit to the shareholders. The slopes of the cross-lode continue to. supply a large proportion of quartz, while the workings on No. 4 reef on 350 feet level are pushed ahead, and the fossicking out small veins, of goldbJearing stone will repay the labor.
