We would remind our readers that Mr Jno. Cartwright will preach in the Karaka Schoolroom to-morrow evening at the usual hour, and will take the " Doctrine of Christ " as his subject.

A Pbovincial Government Gazette, published yesterday, contains a notification revoking the limit's of the Shortland Slaughter House District, and defining the boundaries of the Thames Slaughter House District, and the appointment of Sergeant James Elliott of the Thames Police Force to be Inspector of the same. The Statement of the account of the Province of Auckland for the quarter ended June 30, is published.

Amongst the cargo of the Alumbagh which has just arrived from London we notice 39 cases of drapery, &c, for Mr James Marshall, Albert street, Thames,

The spirit of enterprise is not dead on the Thames yet. Amongst other evidences of this which may be seen is the extensive biscuit factory in course of erection in Queen street, Grahamstown, next to the Masonic Hall, for Messrs Mennie and Dey. The large building is to be fitted with the newest machinery for carrying on the business, by which the enterprising proprietors will be able to compete with outsiders, and we trust to the exclusion of the latter, so that local industries may flourish.- We shall take an opportunity of noticing Messrs Mennie and Dey's establishment at some future time.

By the balance sheet of the Thames Amateur Dramatic Club we find that the performance given by its members in aid of the funds of the Naval Brigade Rowing Club has resulted in n benefit to the last named society of £5 6s Gd. The amount taken at the door and by the sale of tickets being £21 15s 3d, out of which £16 9s 9d was swallowed up. by expenses. The amount certainly does not seem large, but it must be remembered that the Cricketers Dramatic Club when playing for the benefit of the Ladies Benevolent Society in the beginning of the year, were only enabled td: hand over about the same amount, although their next attempt resulted, in over-£SO being taken in money from one of the largest houses seen at the Thames, We hope the ThamesArdateur Club will follow in their steps ; choose some good piece and bestow the same amount of pains and trouble on it as did the the. Cricketers' Club, m which case we hope they will meet with the same deserved succe|s, and we venture to predict it.
