The 'further-reports"of the Abolition debate are excluded from our columns today. They are becoming tedious and uninteresting and we do not care to be continually crowding out-local news for what are at best mere digests of the different speeches.
We notice that Mr Edward Lewis, one of the "Evangelists" from the Christian Meeting FTouse, Auckland, will lecture in the Tiew Templar Hall this evening on ''The Sects everywhere spoken against," and on Sunday evening in the same place he will preach, choosing " The Man of Sorrows " as his subject.
It is Borne time since we were called, upon to record anything in the way of "selling off" or '" immense reductions " in the clothing department. .But we are now reminded that Messrs "J. Cosgrave and Co., are. calling a sale of drapery and clothing at their establishments in Owen and Albertstreets. The stocks in these establishments embrace £20,000 worth of goods. Cheap drapery and winter clothing will now be the order of the day.—Apv?.
"The usual fortnightly meeting of the Borough Council was held last night, and after ihe minutes of the previous meeting had been read and confirmed, and accounts passed for payment, a letter was read from Mr Fleming concerning the substitution of Mr Blotfc for Mr Dewar as one of his securities. This was ordered to stand over until Monday next, the Council having adjourned to allow them to be present at the Fire Brigade banquet.
