The Burgess Roll.
REVISION COURT,
The Kevision Court resumed at the Council Chambers this morning at 11 o'clock. Present — IJis Worship the Major and Messrs Carpenter and Pulleine Assessors.
The application of Mr H. Mcllhone was first proceeded with, that gentleman being in attendance.
His Worship the Mayor said that it was the opinion of the Covrt that both applications must be refused. His Worship set forth the grounds of refusal as follows: — In the case of the application of Mr Hugh Mcllhone to have his name placed on the Burgess List of the Borough of Thames, the Court is of opinion that the application cannot be granted. That under section 48 of. the Municipal Corporations Act 1867 he had not on the 20th day of June last been rated, nor had been liable to be rated for the property ©n account of which the application is made. ... ■
The judgment of the Court on the second application of Mir Hugh Mcllhone is the same as in the first, the applications in both cases cannot be granted. Mr Mcllhone said he must accept the ruling of the Court, but he had the opinion of two eminent solicitors, which opinion was entirely against' the ruling of the Court. Mr Mcllhone had no doubt but that the Court gave such ruling as it thought right, but he regretted that there was not a higher Court to appeal to.
His Worship said that he was verysorry that the Court could not grant the application, as he thought Mr Mellhone's case one of great hardship and felt sure that Mr Mcllhone would admit the clause was a very vague oae.
