Golden Ahbow (Taibua.)~
An extraordinary meeting of shareholders was held at the Pacific Hotel last evening. Mr Turtle in the chair. The following gentlemen were elected direc- • tors—Messrs Barty, Turtle, A. Rowe, Cook and Bowden. All the director*, to retire annually, and tp hold not jesip^ than 100 shares to render them eligible p for re-election. Rules Were passed for regulation of the company. The following report from Mr Batty, mine manager was read : —" Gentlemen.r^C beg to submit to you the following repjn of progress in the T above mine. Since my appointment as manager to the above mine, my first commencement of operations was to build a hut for myself and men. Having completed this I commenced prospecting on the south end of your mine, on the course where the prospectors' No. 2 reef was . supposed to be running, and in a few days the cap of a large reef was met with* which proved, to be gold-bearing, but as ihe Eldorado was obtaining good prospects within 50 feet of the Golden Arrow north boundary, I therefore thought it adviaftM* - that work should be commenced on that portion of the mine. When clearing away some of the timber and surface, I met with a large body of quartz, which I supposed to be the Eldorado reef. I therefore thought it advisable that a tunnel should be commenced, to prove the value of the reef at a deeper level. I cleared.away a face to commence the tunnel. 50 feet from the north boundary and 80 feet from the eastern boundary. T^e course of the tunnel is east and west r . as the bearings of the reef appear to be north and south. The tunnel is in now. - 15 feet through very difficult country, but in the face at present there appears to be coming in better country, similar to. 1 what the Eldorado had before they inter* sected the reef. I may mention that this present tunnel will give from 50 to 60 feet of backs, and 1 expect there is 20 - or 30 feet of driving yet to be done before the reef is met with." " ■
