APPLICATIONS FOR AGBICULTU RAL LEASES AT OHINEMURI.
There were, we understand, no less than forty-one applications for land m^de to Captain Fraseryesterdayunder thenewregulationsatOhinemuri. As, however, several individuals had in some instances applied for the same pieco of ground, the claims were attempted to be decided by lottery, but here Captain Eraser's difficulties began, as it wasifound impossible, owing to the way in which some pieces of land applied.for overlapped others, to decide exactly which was the piece the drawers for the time being were drawing for. The disputes were not settled when the steamer left, but we have heard that to obtain a better chance of certain coveted pieces of land some persons caused several applications, to be made by their friends and others, on the understanding that the land, if obtained thus, should be the property of the concocters of the swindle.
