BRIGHT SMILE.
This morning about 1 o'clock, the en-, gineer in charge of jthe Winding and pumping engines, observed a flaw in the crank shaft of the winding engine and immediately stopped. . On securing the . gear and inspecting the crank; it was found to be completely broken, close unV der the shoulder, coming apart whin taken down. No time { was lost in transmitting the broken ltmb^toHHie foundry, Where .repairs .are = now,being effected, and by to morrow.at noon, it is expected to resume work; Tins'mishap of course stops all work in the mine till the engine can start again.. The wonder is, that no other damage took place. If the crank had made halfa revolution more the cage in the shaft:would have taken charge, and caused -most inevitably considerable destruction; ■-..--• -
