July 23. ' The Budget still continues an object of attraction and interest* to all classes. On Wednesday night Mr Berry mored an amendment, that the financial arrangements of the Government are unsatisfactory, and it was negatived, by 32 to 22i Many free traders .wore unwilling to support either the ultra-protectionist .Berry or the Government, and refrained from" voting. Meanwhile discontent with the tariff is slowly and surely growing. Already defections from the Ministerialist ranks in 'the Assembly have occurred, and some of the most, rabid protectionists now face the Ministry in opposition. 'A meeting of the league is to be held this evening in the Princess' Theatre, and last, but not least, a full meeting of publicans yesterday gave their voice against the proposed changes. All the indications are against the Government proposals becoming, law. It is stated that it is not improbable that Judge Dunne will again occupy.a seat on the Bench.

On 'the mail being telegraphed from Adelaide, tbe Argus had 3 special wires laid on direct to their office, with a staff of operators, and had 20,000 words transmitted, containing the whole of their correspondents' letters' making over 13 columns of the Argus, besides the ordinary summary of English news, comprising over 3000 words more. .
