Wednesday. Charles Paddock' was injured by an explosion of a flask of gunpowder yesterday. A neighbour heard the report, and on going inside found Paddock lying on the floor insensible. . His face was burned, and his whiskers and eyebrows singed off. The sTove was- shattered to pieces, and the, windows' bldwn_ ■ out. Paddock has been desponding for some time, and will not say whether he put the flask in himself or not. • • The weights for the Handicap Steeplechase are: —D. Campbell's Tommy Dodd,. aged, 12st 71b* ; Kay's. Medora, aged,' 12st 41bs; Hedge's Ivanhoe, "aged, list 21bs; Craddock's Muscatel, aged, list; Markey's Mousetrap, aged, lOst 71b; O'Brien's Kapai, aged, lOst; Britain's Boyalty, aged, lOst lOlbs; James Campbell's Speculation, aged, lOst. The dis■tinee is three miles and a half over fair hunting country. Frederick Pavitt, late church steward, was brought up at the Supreme Court oh a charge of embezzling sunclry amounts from the Church funds, and was found guilty. 'Sentence was deferred. '
