WAIOTAHI CREEK SCHOOL.
The usual breaking up for midwinter holidays toojc place at this school on Friday evening last, when the children, to the number of about 170, were regaled with cake, tea, fruit, &c, to theirjhoarts' content ; about 50 visitors were present also. | Mr Sims occupied the chair, and gave a short address. Singing, reading, and recitations, were given by'the scholars; all the scholars gave several rounds of song which had a most pleasing affect, harmony being the predominant feature. The pieces sung by Misses M. Pjne, Jane French, Margaret Robinson, A. Buchapan, Agnes Livingstone, A. Coutts, Margaret Murdoch, Mary McCulloch, amongst the elder girls, calledforth much praise; while the smaller ones—E. Bridson, E. Brodie, Clarkson and others elicited applause by their artless rendering of short pieces.- The boys Urquharfc, Mclntyre, Kelly, Muir, Dunstan and Skeen added their quota to the evening's entertainment, which was enhanced by the voluntary rendering of several song 3 by the visitors presentMiss Keven, Miss Jones, Mrs Gribble, Mr Mope and Mr Clarkson. Mr Brodie and Mr Carpenter, M.P.C., gave addresses, and the occasion closed by singing the National Anthem. The whole of the arrrangements had been made and carried out by the head teacher, Mrs Skeen, aided by the assistants,. Miss Boyen, who gave a;{ reading, ,5 arid s Miss ; Agnes Hamilton.
A vote of thahks^p !Mrs Skeen was moved by Mr Clarkson, for the handsome treat provided for the children,-as well as the entertainment; afforded, arid gave expression to the pleasure of all present at witnessing the progress 'and mutual sympathy- existing: between \ teachers, pupils .and, .parents.
