THE PUMPING ASSOCIATION.
The manager reports that the air shaft will be down on the 500 feet level at the end of. this or the beginning of. the next week. In the sinking of this shaft;no time has been lost since the first pick w^s put in at the 400-feet level/from across-cut communicating with the drive into the Tobkey Company's mine; Of course there has been no water to contend with, and during tthe stoppage of the pump work was discontinued; but it would show what, advantage,;there, is in having dry ceuntry to work in, if it were not already perfectly., well known and patent.to every r one. The main shaft will be kept 50 feet ahead of the air shaft; ;otherwise, the water would have to be battled with, and .there is no necessity, for that, as there will be admirable ventilation in the plan de^ cided upon. Sinking in the main shaft is being vigorously pushed forward, the conf, tractor Mr Box having got a fair start after making the preliminary preparations inevitable after a complete cessation of pumping and all other work.
