The miscellaneous entertainment given by:a number of popular local amateurs' in aid of the Graliainstown Volunteer Fire Brigade was, in every respect; an uuquali fietl success." The perform-. 'ance was*under the patronage of the SMayor and Borough Counbillorsjandthe members of the various volunteer companies. The Naval Band also gave their services, and performed several airs; on : the ''balcony of the Academy of Music ; previous to, ihe ; .qpmmencement.r.oi'. .the. amusement inside. 'J he programme was r remarkably well .chosen^ and carried out with great" success. In the first part there were a number of excellent vocal selections, end a peifomumco on the horizontal bar by Master Hunter, I which did that younsr gontloman infinite credit. Miss "Laura VVipernan sang, with her accustomed sweetness, " Never aga:n will yon .Robin," for which a clamorous encore was accorded, and good uaturedly responded to, " Impudent Barney " being substituted. Mr fteid, whose 'excessivo comicality is much appreciated, succeeded well in amusing the audienco. He sang " No cure no pay," " Tis hard to love," and was loudly encored on each occasion. iN rd. less 'an attraction as a humorist was i Mr E. Targett, who sang several songs of ;his ovyn composing^ with signal sii<?tjess, ■receiving Pgreat .applause.?; { "-Aladdin's [Lamp >Jby" M"r T; Mill's: was well received, as was also a,riegro ditty,.withftam-: bourine '.accompaniment, .. "Hold,; your Horses." Mr Basham sang "Brave Old X)alr," and was rewarded by a fi?ir measure 'of applause. The .second,pari. of .the lorogramme*-. was equally -successfull,^ in lact, it contained the choicest performance ion . , the=..,„list, _,;.namely, - the, > duet i".Piigfit' !iof the * Swallows," by* Misses IWiseman. and, Htmt-er.'"
