The Waikato'Times, in an article on Native afiairs w^iich'appeared in Saturdays' issue, has the' following :—Moffit, the Pakeha Moari; has left Te Kuiti, • and is on v his Way 'to Wanganui, having been last heard-of in the neighbourhood of the head of the'Mokaulliver. ,The head-quarters of the Kingparty appear to have become too hot' to hold'him. He has been attempting to,'utter a number of cheques purporting tp.be signed by Mr George .Graham,',bit which.,ate.simply barefaced'forgeries.' At one" time he had £2,000 worth of these in his possession, and some of them were offered at Alexandra by natives "upon whom he had foisted them, and o£ course they were rejected. Mbffit was enabled to victimise the natives of Te Kuiti to a considerable extent by fraudulent representations, until his worthless character was unmasked by Mr John Davis, ,who is now at Te Kuiti. It is needle'ss'to'remark that this man Moffifc is the person who underwent sentence in Mount Eden gaol for fraud. John Nott, another idle, worthless vagabond of the same, kidney, has returned from;' Auckland, where, he succeeded in duping ra'newspaper and obtaining the gum of £40 for lying-reports about the
ing country. He has been trying to get through, to Te Kuiti, but hearing of the disgrace of his bosom friend Moffifc, he has billeted himself upon ihe hospitable natives of Kopu. Neither of those vagabonds has the slightest influenoo with the natives, and it is well that they have. not.
Wo see it is stated in tho fashionable intolllgonce lhat "ladies are going to wear their hair this season as they did, three hundred years ago." Wo had no idea that there were any such old ladies! around.
