FERN FLAT STONE.

The pardel of stone brought down from the above .place by Mr John Leydpn wasl crushed yesterday at the- Tramway • battery, and yielded 2 dwts 9 grains of retorted gold. The stone weighed 13 3* pounds, and it was treated with the greatest care. : There have now been three trial crushings from this newly discovered"reef as follows:'—9s"lbs, crushed at the Tramway .'battery, 10 dwts 5 grains ; 99 lbs,.. crushed at Quint's .Reduction Works, 2 grains ; 133 lbs, crushed at the Tramway battery;' 2 dwts| 9 grains. There" is a considerable discrepancy between these different yields, but there is every reason to believe the' trials have been bona fide. The crushing' of a large parcel is the only reliable test of a reef.
