THE WEATHER.

To-day is the natal day of Her Majesty Qeen Victoria, and the people have not been singular on this occasion inmaking it a dpy of rejoicing. It has always been the custom to look upon this day, or some other in lieu thereof, as a pretty general holiday, as well as an occasion for the turn out of our Volunteer Military force, who are supposed to display themselves in all the glory of their uniforms to do honor to their gracious Queen, but who, it has been darkly hinted, have more idea of doing honor to . themselves. At the same time much is due in the way of thanks to Her Majesty for having a birthday, which gives occasion for people to have a holiday. But this year, as was the case in 1874, the weather has not been at all seasonable, in fact extremely bad. The morning broke with very ominous looking clouds in the sky, which has maintained a dirty aspect throughout the day, with (in the morning) a weak appearance of the sun, who emerged from behind as if he was half ashamed of himself for making a pretence at smiling. However, none of these appearances had much affect upon those persons who had determined upon making a holiday of it, circumstances being ordinarily favorable, and numbers mi^ht have been seen astir at an early hour this morning—a few going to and coming from work, but the majority holiday-makers bent on amusement. Their determination was unkindly frustrated, for about noon the rain commenced and gradually increased in volume, the afternoon being what is called " a soaker."
