WELLINGTON.
Monday,
In addition to the very large cargo of coal brought from Sydney by the Easby, there was a large quantity of farm produce such as hams, bacon, butter, etc., one person alone having brought down a thousand pounds worth of stuff to speculate in, and he is making a very good thing out of it, although it does look something like .bringing coals to Newcastle.
Building on the reclaimed land goes on rapidly, and is quite changing the appearance of the town in the vicinity of Government house. ;
The question of excessive shipping dues of the port is engaging attention. The redoubtable Doctor Walter Buller wants a few more joints to the tail of his patronymic. He aspires to have M.H.8.. on his card, and is quietly preparing for a canvass at next election. It is yet uncertain whether Wanganui or Manawatu will be the favoured locality, but it is bound to be some place on the West Coast. Whatever the value of his German-purchased title may be, he is a man of perservering industry and good natural ability, and would make an excellent member. As he is pretty popular on the,coast, he will stand an chance of being returned.
