There is great vitality in the building trade. Smith and Fotheringham are building a large brick-kiln on the German principle, capable of turning out 90,000 bricks a week. This will make their total per week 150,000. The' Governor has been busy inspecting the Cadet corps at the High School, also the hospital, lunatic asylum, and other public institutions. In the Counciliast night there was laid on the table a return showing the amount of freight paid by the province during the past financial year, detailing the price per ton and amount of freight by each vessel. The total amount was £1,676 4s. Also a return of the'quantities of gold received per escort for the year 1874-5 ended the the 31st of March. The totals were— April, 9,5550z5; May, 7,2650z5; June. 10,6290zs ; July, 3.9440zs ; August, 7,053 ozs; September, 10,801ozs; October, 12,9400z5; November, 10,7170z5; December, 17,9150z5; January, 7,3780z5; February, 7,5570zs ; March, 9,29lozs—grand total, 114,4500z5. ;
