PUMPING ASSOCIATION.
-There is a pretty long prospective, of real hard wdrk at the' Association 1 Shaft, in getting^ in the new 18-inch lift r It is remarkably easy to speak of these lifts, and to rattle off numerous technicalities whichi represent articles very much' more ponderous than the words themselves ; but it ia not, perhaps, so easy' to'conceive the immense amount of time and labor which is required in the positionising of the different parts of the big pump, unless by seeing themv Two chambers have to be cut, and into one the cistern has to be placed, ;the 25-inch lift has then to be put into the cistern; and the plunger rods swill- then |be lowered down. There|>eing so mui|h work to do in changing the lifts, it is not to be expected that sinking will make much progress during the next six weeks. The nature of the country has undergone no change, still maintaining its' 'character for toughness. Measuring up lor the fortnight will take place about Tuesday.
