QUEEN OF THE MAY.
The result of the crushing for this company will be to liand on Saturday. Ini tke meantime operations are steadily progressing in the mine: 'Without wishing unnecessarily to value the prospects of the company at a high figure, it may be stated that the indications at present are extremely favorable towards a decided improvement as the reefs go down. One of the chief arguments in favor of such a theory is that the reef has increased in size as it has been sunk upon. From an
insignificant width we now have a reef measuring some seven feet through, and up to yesterday afternoon it was unknown whether the foot wall had been obtained, by which a definite knowledge of the size could be obtained. Besides this, the stuff taken : out of jtho lade has always been better than that obtained rising up. Thus it will be seen that the indications are decidedly in favor of good prospects at the lower levels. The City of London Company have commenced sinking 70 feet further, and when that has been reached, both the City and Queen of the May will at once open out. The City of London shaft is on the boundary line of two mines, so that one shaft suffices for both. ;
