QUEEN OF BEAUTY.
It is my unpleasant duty to communicate the fact that the Queen of Beauty mine has stopped work indefinitely, owing to there being no water to supply the battery. This is much to be regretted, as the reputation of, the Thames, goldfield depends not a little on this'mine, which has maintained a steady yield of gold for a longer period than most mines in the district. The battery depends chiefly upon the Waiotahi supply, but the extremely long drought which we have lately experienced has completely dried up the creek. There being so little water in the big shaft, nothing can be expected from the Pumping Association. Hence, there is no alternative, but to wait for a downfall of rain, which devout persons might properly pray for. A few men will be kept on to effect certain necessary repairs in the shaft, but all other labor will be immediately discontinued.
