Exchange : About 1200 forfeited shares were offered by auction and realised from 2d 1o 6d per share ; sales in the msrket since at 6tl to Is lOd ; the heavy oa'l of 2» has completely checked speculation in this stock. Demand for general goods of daily consumption are inquired for, particularly for Ohinemuri. rlhe storekeepers there complain of the great inconvenience they experience in getting supplies from Auckland, and would prefer sending orders to Grahamstown, which ■would be executed without loss of time. It jg, therefore, apparent that, with the opening of the Upper Country, to supply the increased wants direct Bbipments 1 o Grahamstown from foreign ports will have to be substituted for the roundabout expensive way in which our supplies have hitherto come to hand, and the sooner our harbor is made accessible for loading and discharging in a reasonable time, the better for the district Sale of household furniture at the residence of Mr Shappere •was largely attended, and the prices were satisfactory, both to buyers and sellers. The cottage was withdrawn, as bidding did not come up to reserve, but only by £10. and there is every probability of a sale being rtegociated. Produce remains without alteration, except maize, which is both scarce and firm at quotations.
