FUNERAL OF THE LATE SIR S. BIGNOLD.

The funeral of the late Sir S. Bignold took place on January Bth at Norwich, and was a most imposing demonstration of the respect and esteem in which the deceased was held by the citizens and by the large body of his personal friends. The funeral procession was of great length, and comprised upwards of 100 carriages, of which 25 were mourning coaches. The Mayor (Mr E. N. Harvey), the Sheriff (Mr Youngs), and the Deputy Mayor (Mr S. G-urney Buxton), with a large number of the members of town council, the magistrates, the corporate and local officials, the directors of the Norwich Union Fire and Life Insurance Societies (of which the deceased was secretary), and representatives ,of the Manchester Unity of Odd Fellows and various local Conservative associations, joined in the general procession. The mourners also comprised a considerable number of the relatives and personal friends of the deceased, including the agents of the Norwich Union in London, Liverpool, and Bristol, the clerks of the Norwich Union, at Norwich (45 in number); and the tenants and household servants of the deceased attended to pay the last tribute of respect to his memory. The funeral service was read in Old Catton Church, the officiating clerymen being the Rev. C. Baldwin and the Rev. R. Flast. Such a 1 funeral demonstration has not taken place in Norwich for many years. The bo3y was enclosed in three coffins, the outer one being of polished oak, with brass mountings. The plate bore the city and family arms, and the inscription, "Sir Samuel Bignold, Knight, born October 13th, 1791, died January 2d, 1875," The coffin was covered with a splendid pall, on the top of which were strewed three magnificent wreaths, and a cross composed of choice flowers. The deceased's life was insured for £50,000, and he leaves besides several estates and a large personalty.
