# Sydney, M"arch 19. Fairclough, the tragedian,, is insolvent. An accountant, named Williams, has been arrested on a charge of forgery. ' Chevalier Brano, an Italian gentleman, applied to the Minister of Lands for

2,000 acres of land for sericultural purposes. A rare bird—the " Strown-neeked Ithis"—has been recently met with wading in a lagoon near Kelso.

A report has just reached Qvieaabcyan that the mail from there to-day was stuck up between Gundaroo and Collector, about one o'clock. The mailman was fired at, nnd he bolted, leavingthe mails and buggy on tire road. He returned to Gundaroo and reported the matter to tho police. Melbcitbne, March 19. A man was found with his throat, cut, in the Treasury Gardens, this morning. He stated that he was twenty years superintendent of police in Queensland, and he had recently come to this colony. A case of robbing tne dead (says the Melbourne Argus) has been brought under the notice of the police. About the 26th ult. a woman named Sarah Adams died intestate in Fitzroy-street, Fitzroy,J and the curator of intestates Restates, ;who has taken charge of the 'properties, ihas reportf d that a quantity of jewellery is missing from the estate, and is supposed to have been stolen at the time of the woman's death, from her house.

A dinner vas/ giveii to Mr Ellery (Government Astronomer) last night; it was a success.
